December Play Day Gift Card Holder!

I found the instructions for this awesome gift card holder on Stampin Connection, the Stampin Up Demo only web site.  This makes up fast and easy and uses a minimal amount of cardstock!

Here is my recipe:

STAMPS:  Merry and Type, More Merry Messages

CARDSTOCK:
Cherry Cobbler:  4-1/4 x 11, score at 3" down the long side, score at 3" and 7" down the short side
(cut 1-1/4 x 7 along the short section and middle section, save for belly band)
     Be of Good Cheer DSP:  2-3/4 x 2-3/4 (2), 2-3/4 x 3-3/4 (3)
     Very Vanilla:  2-3/4 x 3-3/4
Be of Good Cheer DSP:  1 x 7
     Scrap:  Very Vanilla

INK:  Cherry Cobbler

MARKERS:  Gumball Green, Cherry Cobbler

ACCESSORIES:  Extra Large Oval Punch, Sticky Tape, Dimensionals

The gift card looks like this when opened:

I like the way it has an obvious space to sign your name and write a short message, if desired.  I give gift cards to several friends every year, and actually don't sign the gift card holder so that they can recycle the gift card holder, which they LOVE!

And one more picture:

Sorry, I can't get this picture to rotate, but I added it to show you the back of the gift card holder before it is folded up.  Hope it helps, even without rotating it!

Terrific Tag for April!

Okay, so I have failed at blogging for a while.  Life kind of derailed my plans to keep current, but here I am back again with my Terrific Tag for April (yes, I know it is May--I haven't made a card for May, yet!).

I was invited to be a vendor at a crop sponsored by a Girl Scout troop to raise money to go to Savannah, and needed a couple of Make and Takes; when I think of something fast to create, my mind always rushes to tags.  So I thought I would do something that would take care of two things, my Make and Take and my Terrific Tag for April.

Here is the tag I created:

I really was pleased with the way the tag turned out, too!  Here is my recipe:

STAMPS:  Gifts of Christmas, Tag Time

Elementary Elegance SAB Birthday Card CASE

I really love this card; it is a CASE of a card created by fellow SU demo Dawn Olechafski.  About the only thing I changed was the ribbon (she used Pool Party Seam Binding ribbon and I used the ruffled Pool Party ribbon).  I would have never thought to use this color combination (Pool Party and Peach Parfait) but I really love it together.  We made this card at Sheila's workshop a couple of weeks ago.

Here is my recipe:

STAMPS:  Elementary Elegance, Bring on the Cake

CARDSTOCK:
     Peach Parfait:  4-1/4 x 11, scored at 5-1/2
     Very Vanilla:  3 x 3
     Peach Parfait:  3-1/8 x 3-1/8
     Pool Party:  3-1/2 x 3-1/2
Scraps:  Very Vanilla, Peach Parfait, Everyday Enchantment DSP

Mixed Bunch/Blossom Punch Card

Here is a card we made with the residents at Morning Pointe in February.  It uses the Mixed Bunch stamp set and the coordinating punch, Blossom Punch.  There are so many possibilities with this stamp set and punch!  This card is a CASE of one by Mary Brown, aka Stampercamper.

The flower was stamped with Versamark onto Velumn, sprinkled with White Embossing Powder and heated with the Heat Gun, then punched out with the Blossom Punch.  A second flower was punched from Wisteria Wonder and placed behind the velumn.  Here is another view of the flower:

Here is my recipe:

Everyday Enchantment Birthday Card

I have several birthdays coming up, so needed to make a few cards (work ahead?  WOW! What a concept!).  Anyway, I saw a card by Ruth Norton, a fellow Stampin Up demo, on Stampin Connection, a demo only web site.  I CASED her sketch, used the same stamp set, but totally different colors and I used DSP instead of embossed cardstock.  I don't know if the picture will do it justice, because the colors are SO bright and cheerful--I just love the Everyday Enchantment DSP!

The little brad from the Everyday Enchantment brad and ribbon pack adds just the right touch!

Here is my recipe:

STAMPS:  Curly Cute, On Your Birthday

CARDSTOCK:
     Pool Party:  5-1/2 x 8-1/2, scored at 4-1/4
     Calypso Coral:  3-3/4 x 5
     Very Vanilla:  3-5/8 x 4-1/2
     Very Vanilla:  7/8 x 3-5/8
     Everyday Enchantment DSP:  1-1/2 x 5
     Scraps:  Calypso Coral
     INSIDE:
          Calypso Coral:  3-3/4 x 5
          Very Vanilla:  3-5/8 x 4-7/8

Bordering on Romance: February Play Day Project Three

For our third project at February Play Day, we made a simple card with the new Bordering on Romance stamp set.  The layout was inspired by a card I saw on Beth Prout's blog, Just B.

My recipe:

STAMPS:  Bordering on Romance

CARDSTOCK:
     Crumb Cake:  4-1/4 x 11 scored at 5-1/2
     Watercolor Paper:  3-1/2 x 3-1/2
     Twitterpated DSP:  1 x 4-1/4 (2 pieces)
     Scraps:  Watercolor Paper
     INSIDE:
          Baja Breeze:  3-1/2 x 4-3/4
          Whisper White:  3-3/8 x 4-5/8
          Twitterpated:  3/4 x 3-3/8

INK:  Black Stazon, Pear Pizzazz, Rose Red, Baja Breeze

ACCESSORIES:  Aqua Painter, Pearls, Dimensionals, Hemp Twine, 2-1/2 Circle Punch, Paper Snips, Scalloped Border Punch

After we adhered the rows of scalloped DSP to the card base, we gently pushed up the scallops to give the card a bit more dimension.

Here is another view of the flowers:

Quilt Card: February Play Day Project Two

My very first thought when I saw the lattice die in the Stampin Up catalog was that it looked like an old fashioned wedding ring quilt!  So when I saw some cards with "quilts" I decided I needed to make one with the lattice die.  I have seen similar cards, but didn't write down any names, so if you have made one of these, it probably inspired this card!

Here is the recipe:

STAMPS:  Bring on the Cake

CARDSTOCK:
     Baja Breeze:  4-1/4 x 11 scored at 5-1/2
     Twitterpated DSP:  3-3/8 x 3-3/8
     Whisper White:  4-1/4 x 5-1/2
     Twitterpated DSP:  3-1/2 x 3-1/2
     INSIDE:
          Blushing Bride:  3-1/2 x 4-3/4
          Whisper White:  3-3/8 x 4-3/4
          Twitterpated DSP:  1 x 3-3/8

INK:  Island Indigo, Crumb Cake

ACCESSORIES:  Lattice Die, Finial Press Embossing Folder, Big Shot, Sponge, Baja Breeze Seam Binding Ribbon, Paper Snips, Scalloped Border Punch, Dimensionals, Tombo Multi Liquid Glue

To make the quilt panel, we glued the Whisper White Lattice Die Cut onto the "calico" piece of Twitterpated, let it dry for just a minute and then cut around the outside of the Lattice Die cut.  We then glued that piece onto the Blushing Bride piece of Twitterpated DSP.  The panel was then run through the Big Shot with the Finial Press Embossing Folder and sponged lightly over the top and around the edges with Soft Suede ink.

I did not take a picture of the inside of the card, but the sentiment from Bring on the Cake stamp set reads:  "Not just a year older, but a year better." which I thought went perfectly with a quilt!

Happy stampin and scrappin,
Linda

We made some birthday cards in February, and this one was my favorite.  It is so bright and cheerful, and is easy to make!  Here is a picture:

I saw an awesome card by Mary Fish and used her idea to make the packages.  It is hard to see, but there are some score lines on the white panel behind the "presents" that I made with my Simply Scored tool.

Here is another view:

STAMPS:  Teeny Tiny Wishes, On Your Birthday, Short & Sweet, Sweets for the Sweet

Projects at Assisted Living Home in January

My friend, Dottie, and I went to a local Assisted Living Home this past month and made cards with some of the residents there.  These are the projects we made:

The little card was quite simple, a couple of layers of cardstock and DSP with the scalloped heart embosslit to make a little 3 x 3 card.  The second card used the stamp set You Are Loved, which was in the Holiday Mini Catalog.

Here is the recipe for the bigger card:

STAMPS:  You Are Loved

Terrific Tag for February!

I'll bet you thought I would forget all about my resolution to do one tag each month, didn't you?  Well, I didn't, and here is my Terrific Tag for February:

This tag is bright, colorful and cheerful, and who wouldn't like these cute little snowguys, right?

Here is my recipe:

STAMPS:  Merry Winter

CARDSTOCK:
     Marina Mist:  3-1/2 x 5
     Old Olive:  1-3/8 x 2-3/4
     Real Red:  3 x 3
     Whisper White:  2 x 2

INK:  Old Olive

MARKERS:  Basic Black, Old Olive, Real Red, Marina Mist, Pumpkin Pie

ACCESSORIES:  Peek-a-boo Frame Die, Two Tags Die, Snowburst Embossing Folder, Big Shot, Sponge, White Baker's Twine, Dimensionals, Mini Jingle Bell

This was a lot of fun to make.  You can't really see it in the picture, but I used the long "strip" of snowflakes and used my Marina Mist marker to color just one and then stamp it a couple of times.

Melanie's Workshop, Project Three, Beautiful Butterflies Valentine Treat

The third project we made at Melanie's workshop was a Valentine's treat made with the Beautiful Butterflies die.  Here is a picture of the project:

This project was a CASE of one I saw on Mary "Stampercamper" Brown's blog for the Control Freaks Blog Hop.  We used Real Red cardstock and Brights Patterned DSP stack to cut out the two largest butterflies on the Beautiful Butterflies die.  Cut one Word Window punch using the silver glimmer paper, and cut it in half longways for the butterfly antlers.  They were glued with Tombo Multi Liquid Adhesive between the two butterfly layers.  We punched two hearts from the red glimmer paper with the small heart punch, and glued them to each of the antlers.  Then we used glue dots to attach a Hershey's creamy chocolate heart for the body of the butterfly.  There you are--quick and easy!

Melanie's Workshop, Project Two, Take It To Heart!

Here is the second card we made at Melanie's workshop last week:

I really LOVE the Sale-a-bration DSP Everyday Enchantment, and the way it looks on this card is really WOW!  Poppy Parade is one of the colors I really neglect; I love bright colors, but Poppy Parade is so BRIGHT!  Anyway, pared with the Everyday Enchantment DSP and the Soft Suede, with a little sponging, and I really do LOVE IT!

Here is my recipe:

STAMPS:   Take It To Heart

CARDSTOCK:
     Soft Suede:  5-1/2 x 8-1/2, scored at 4-1/4
     Poppy Parade:  3-1/4 x 4-1/2
     Very Vanilla:  3-1/8 x 4-3/8
     Everyday Enchantment DSP:  1-3/8 x 4-3/8
     Scraps:  Poppy Parade, Very Vanilla
     INSIDE:
          Poppy Parade 3-1/4 x 4-1/2
          Very Vanilla:  3-1/8 x 4-3/8

INK:  Poppy Parade, Soft Suede

ACCESSORIES:  Dotted Scallop Ribbon Punch, Linen Thread, Dimensionals, Sponge

This is another card that is almost flat, and that could be used as either a notecard or a Valentine's Day card!

Melanie's Workshop, Project One

My friend, Melanie, had a workshop at her house recently, and this is one of the make-and-takes we made there:

I had seen some beautiful bright cards on Robin Merriman's blog, Trinity Designs, made with the Mixed Bunch and Blossom Punch, and decided I would try my hand at it.  I really loved the way the project turned out.  I used the Tangerine Tango Embossing Powder on the punched flower, and sponged the edges.

Here is my recipe:

STAMPS:  Mixed Bunch

CARDSTOCK:
     Pacific Point:  4-1/4 x 11, scored at 5-1/2
     Old Olive:  2 x 4-1/4
     Scraps:  So Saffron
     INSIDE:
          Old Olive:  3-1/4 x 4-1/2
          Whisper White:  3-1/8 x 4-3/8

INK:  Pacific Point, Tangerine Tango, Versamark

ACCESSORIES:  Tangerine Tango Embossing Powder, Heat Gun, Sponge, Tombo Multi Liquid Glue, Glue Dots, Dimensionals, Lace Ribbon Border Punch, 1" Circle Punch, Blossom Punch

This card is basically a flat card.  I curled the edges of the flowers a bit, and the center of the flower is popped up with a dimensional.  It also used no embellishments!

January Play Day 2012, Project Four

I've been working on cleaning up my craft room, well, at least putting things where I can find them!  I think it is a constant struggle for most crafters to keep their crafting area straightened up.  But I have a fun project to share with you today.  It is the fourth project we made at our January Play Day.

For this project, we used one of my new favorite sets from the Occasions Mini, You're My Type!  I think that this made a very nice masculine valentine card!

Here is my recipe for this card:

STAMPS:  You're My Type

CARDSTOCK:
     Crumb Cake:  4-1/4 x 11, scored at 5-1/2
     Whisper White:  2-1/4 x 4-1/4
Brights Patterns DSP Stack (Real Red):  2-3/4 x 1-3/4
Brights Patterns DSP Stack (Real Red):  3/4 x 5-1/2
     Real Red:  3/4 x 5-1/2
     Early Espresso:  5/8 x 3-1/2
     INSIDE:
          Real Red:  3-3/4 x 5
          Whisper White:  3-3/4 x 4-7/8
Scraps:  Real Red, Brights Patterns DSP Stack,

INK:  Early Espresso

ACCESSORIES:  Houndstooth Embossing Folder, Big Shot, Brights Buttons, Linen Thread, Glue Dots, 1" Square Punch, Owl Punch (heart), Small Heart Punch

I used Sketch #182 from Create with Connie and Mary to design this card.

January Play Day 2012, Project Three

Today I am sharing with you the third project we made at our January Play Day!  I really like the way this card turned out; it could be used for Valentine's Day, but it could also be used as a notecard for a friend.  There are several options in the Twitterpated DSP that could be used, in different colors, for a set of cards, maybe a gift for a sweet friend.

Here is the picture of our project:

My recipe:

STAMPS:  Take it to Heart, Tiny Tags

CARDSTOCK:
     Crumb Cake:  5-1/2 x 8-1/2 scored at 4-1/4
     Island Indigo:  3-1/4 x 4-1/2
     Baja Breeze:  3-1/8 x 4-3/8
     Whisper White:  3 x 4-1/4

January Play Day 2012, Project Two

Our second project at January Play Day was a nugget tray.  I used instructions I found from Heidi Boos, and they were very simple and easy to make!  Here is a picture of our finished project:

The tray was made from Real Red Cardstock, cut to 1-7/8 x 4-1/4, scored at 1/4" on both long sides.  I cut four pieces of  Pretty in Pink and Real Red DSP from the Brights and Subtles Patterned Paper Stacks that were 1 x 3 to cover the nuggets.  Snail adhesive was used on one end and Sticky Strip was used on the other end.  Place the four covered Hershey nuggets on the tray and slip them into a pretzel bag (found in the candy section of your nearby craft store).  We tied the bag shut with 1/4" Real Red Grograin ribbon and cut off the excess end of the bag.  The "Friend" heart is from the I Heart Hearts stamp set, and was stamped in Real Red classic ink onto Whisper White cardstock and cut out, then mounted onto a Pretty in Pink that was cut out with the Scalloped Heart of Hearts Embosslit and the Big Shot.  We punched a hole in the middle of the heart and attached it to the Nugget Tray with White Baker's Twine.  This project is quick and easy to do, perfect to make several for friends or co-workers!

Thanks for looking!

January Play Day 2012, Project One

We had a Valentine theme for our January Play Day, and our first card is a CASE of one found in the big Stampin Up catalog on page 157:

This card caught my eye when I first flipped through the new catty when it came out, and I decided it was perfect to showcase some of the new Occasions Mini catty products (the beautiful pleated satin ribbon and the Adorning Embosslit Hearts!).  One of the reasons I hadn't made it much, much earlier was that I didn't want to try sewing with my Play Day ladies (to make the pleated paper at the bottom) and the new ribbon solved that problem completely!

You can't see it in the picture, but we used the Hearts (Adorning Accent Embosslits) just above the bottom of the card base; it really adds a nice touch!

Here is my recipe:

STAMPS:  I Heart Hearts, Word Play

CARDSTOCK:
     Riding Hood Red:  5-1/2 x 8-1/2, scored at 4-1/4
     Whisper White:  3-1/4 x 4-1/2
     Inside:  Blushing Bride:  3-3/8 x 4-5/8
                 Whisper White:  3-1/4 x 4-1/2
     Scraps:  Whisper White

INK:  Riding Hood Red, Blush Blossom

MARKERS:  Early Espresso, Baja Breeze, Riding Hood Red

ACCESSORIES:  Paper Snips, Big Shot, Adorning Accents Hearts Embossing Folder, Clips, Hemp Twine, Blushing Bride Pleated Satin Ribbon

Terrific Tag for January!

Happy New Year's to everyone!  I hope you have had wonderful holidays.  I am ready to get back to a regular routine, and, like many other people, have made some New Year's Resolutions.  One of my resolutions is to not wait until December to try to make all of my cards, gift tags and gift card holders (how many times have we all made THAT resolution!).  So, to try to help, I am going to make one gift tag every month this year, and post it at the first of the month.  Even if I don't get very many of each tag made, I will at least have some designed, which will make my next December easier.  But I do plan to stamp the tags and have them all ready to put together during the month.

That said, here is my Terrific Tag for January, 2012:

The tag was cut out using the Two Tags Die (one of my very favorite die) and my trusty Big Shot.  I stamped a few snowflakes using the Season of Friendship set and Soft Suede ink.  I used a scrap of Very Vanilla and cut it at the bottom of the Two Tags Die, then tore it and sponged it with Soft Suede and a sponge.  To make the tree, I cut squares of Jolly Holiday DSP (retired), 1-3/4, 1-1/2, 1-1/4, and 1 inch, then cut them in half on the diagonal and stacked them on a stump that was cut freehand.  The button was cut with the Sweet Buttons embosslit.  I cut out three buttons and glued them together, then used the paper piercer and mat pack to poke two holes in it.  I used a dental floss threader to pull linen thread through the holes and knotted it.  A bit of hemp twine was tied through the hole at the top of the tag.

The tree was not my original idea--I saw it on Jennifer Timko's blog (Stampin on the Fly) and she gives credit to Connie Babbert for coming up with the idea originally.

Anyway, I feel very good starting out the year with a Christmas tag for next year!  Kind of ironic that I have a tag created for next year and can't get my December Daily scrapbook going from this year, though!  Thanks for stopping by and looking at my creation!

Happy stampin and scrappin,
Linda
