After we made our card, we cut the flap off the end of a clear envelope, and attached it to a white gift bag, like this:
We used sticky tape, so that it would be good and strong. We taped it on all four sides to attach it. Then we slipped our birthday card into the clear envelope and have both a decorated gift bag and a handmade card! (I saw this done at the Milwaukee Regionals.) Here is a picture of how our finished bag looks:
