August Trip to Oregon

One of the reasons I am so far behind on posting is that I was able to fly to Oregon the last week of August. All of my Mother's relatives live there, so she likes to be able to visit at least once a year. I flew to Denver, met Mother there (she flew from Indianapolis), and then went on to Portland with her.

Canby, Oregon (where my aunt lives) is the dahlia capital of the world. Their annual dahlia festival was in progress while we were there, and I got to go to see it twice! They have acres and acres of dahlia fields, two large rooms of dahlia arrangements, and it is a BEAUTIFUL site!

My mother, her brother, Paul, her brother, Ray, and her sister, Ada.

Some of the wonderful desserts that we had at our family gathering. The pear tart (center pie with lattice top) was excellent--made by cousin Loretta!

We had a great time seeing all of the relatives and beautiful Oregon. We feasted on lots of good food and came back a few pounds heavier. One of my favorites was the fresh black cherries we bought at a fruit stand on the way to the coast!

August Play Day!

I'm way behind on posting, so will try to catch up a bit by getting my August Play Day projects posted!

PROJECT ONE:

This card uses the dormant set BRANCH OUT. The following were used to make the card: Kraft cardstock, Whisper White cardstock, Garden Green cardstock, and Real Red cardstock, Chocolate Chip ink, Garden Green, Glorious Green, Real Red, and Basic Black Ink, and Sahara Sand marker. I used a dimensional to pop up the red boots, and the scallop edge punch on the Real Red scallop. The sentiment came from TEENY TINY WISHES.

PROJECT TWO:

This project uses the Big Shot and embossing folder ELEGANT BOUQUET. We brayered Old Olive Ink on the flat side of the embossing folder, laid a piece of Certainly Celery cardstock on top of the inked side, and ran it through the Big Shot. The edges of all of the layers were distressed using the Cutter Kit. Earth Element brads were added to the center of the flowers to make them more colorful. Very Vanilla cardstock and Old Olive were used on this card in addition to the Certainly Celery. The sentiment came from Great Friend, and was punched out with the Small Oval Punch, sponged with Old Olive, and adhered to Old Olive cardstock punched out with the Large Oval Punch, after it was sponged with Night of Navy. I love the technique of inking up the embossing folders!

PROJECT THREE:

This hinged card uses Bermuda Bay, Old Olive, Whisper White and Pumpkin Pie cardstock, with Razzleberry Lemonade DS paper. I used one of my old favorites, BUGS AND KISSES, as the stamp set, and a white 5/16th inch jumbo brad. The scallop edge punch was also used on the DS paper. Here is a picture of the card with the hinge open:

The hinged card is a fun technique to use, and a surprise inside!

PROJECT FOUR:

This project uses the stamp set TART AND TANGY. We used Real Red, Close to Cocoa, Whisper White, Summer Sun and Old Olive cardstock, Real Red, Close to Cocoa and Old Olive markers, Old Olive and Summer Sun classic ink pads, 1-1/4, 1-3/8 Circle Punches, Scallop Circle Punch, and the Dotted Lines Jumbo Wheel. The bookmark has magnets on the inside to hold it together on a page, and the notepad has magnets on the back to go on your refrigerator. The notepads were purchased at an office supply store, where I had them cut in half (cost was only $1 per package to cut them in half).
