Christmas Card CASE!

I am still working on my December Daily, but don't have any pictures to show you yet.  It is challenging to remember to take pictures every day, and we are busy enough that it is hard to find a block of time to work on it!  So today, I will share a Play Day project, I think from October, that I really like!

This is a card that we made at one of our Fall Play Days, I think it was October.  It is a CASE of a beautiful card designed by Andrea Walford.

This card is very sparkly and beautiful in person, but it is hard to capture that in a picture.  Both the snowflake and the embossed area are heat embossed with the Iridescent  Ice Embossing Powder.

Here is my recipe for this card:

STAMPS:  Christmas Greetings
CARDSTOCK:
     Crumb Cake:  4-1/4 x 11, scored at 5-1/2
     Not Quite Navy:  3-1/4 x 4-1/2 (2)
     Baja Breeze:  3-1/8 x 4-3/8 (2)
     Whisper White:  1 x 3
     Whisper White:  3 x 4-1/4 (2)
INK:  Versamark, Not Quite Navy, Craft White
ACCESSORIES:  Snow Burst Embossing Folder, Northern Flurries Die, Big Shot, Baja Breeze Seam Binding Ribbon, Dimensionals, Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder, Heat Gun

I dry embossed the lower portion of the Baja Breeze, then sponged it with Whisper White Craft Ink, then used my Versamark Ink pad to tap it and heat embossed it with Iridescent Ice Embossing Powder.

SNEAK PEAK OF OCCASIONS MINI SAMPLE!

I'm sorry it has been so long since I posted.  I was gone a total of 23 days in September and October, so I have been catching up on all my normal day-to-day stuff.  Anyway, I'm back, and today I am sharing a card I made with my new toys from the Occasions Mini Catalog!

I needed a birthday card for a friend, so figured I would use the opportunity to play with my new toys.  Here is what I came up with:

I used Baja Breeze cardstock as my base (4-1/4 x 11, scored at 5-1/2).  At the bottom of the inside panel, I adhered two small strips of Pocketful of Posey DSP and another strip of Rich Razzleberry cardstock.  I don't have exact measurements, because I have already given my friend her card!  I tied a piece of Baja Breeze seam binding ribbon at the top of the card, and cut out two heart shapes from the card front using the brand new framelit heart die from the Occasions Mini catalog.  I used scissors to cut a piece of the Rich Razzleberry colored DSP (from the Pocketful of Posies DSP); I cut narrow strips, but didn't cut all the way to the end.  Then I cut separate strips of the Baja Breeze colored DSP (from the Pocketful of Posies DSP) and wove them through the piece of Rich Razzleberry DSP.  I adhered the woven panel to a used sheet of copy paper to hold it all together, then cut out my two heart shapes from the woven panel with the Framelit Heart Die.  I put adhesive on the back of the hearts, and adhered them to the back panel of the card by inserting them through the cut out heart shapes on the front to make sure they lined up perfectly.

I used the scalloped edgelit on  the bottom front of the card, then embossed the lower portion of the front panel with the Adorning Accents Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.  Here are some more pictures of my card, first the inside of the card:

Then a close up of the front:

You can see the cool little scallops on each scallop in the above picture.

I have started doing a project called the December Daily.  It is a scrapbook where you make a page (or a two page spread) for each day of whatever you do on that particular day.  I have printed out some pictures, but haven't actually done a page yet.  When I get some done, I will begin posting them!

Thanks for stopping by and looking!

Happy stampin and scrappin,
Linda

Another Swap Card!

This is the second swap card I created for a recent swap.  I used Connie Babbert's excellent tutorial for the Flip Card, which can be found at http://inkspiredtreasures.com/?s-Flip+Card+Tutorial.  Here is a picture of my card:

When you pull on the ribbon at the top, the tag pulls up the picture of the birds, owl and birdcage, revealing a small window with a sentiment in it--it is pretty awesome!  Here is what it looks like open:

And another view shows the tag pulled out:

Here is my recipe:

STAMPS:  Aviary, Bring on the Cake

CARDSTOCK:
     Real Red:  4-1/4 x 5-1/2
Melon Mambo:  4 x 5-1/4 (score and cut according to Flip Card tutorial)

I just love the Funky Fold, and when I saw the tall snowman from the Snow Much Fun stamp set, I knew he was perfect for this card!

Here is a picture of the inside of this card:

I used the Funky Fold directions found on Laura Lipe's blog at http://smileslaura.blogspot.com/2011/03/leprachaun.html.  They are easy to follow and it makes a really fun card!

The Open Sea Matchbox for Father's Day!

One of our May Play Day Projects was making a Matchbox for Father's Day.
The box part was made from Not Quite Navy cardstock, and the top "wrapper" was made from Nautical Expedition DSP.  We stamped the "for you" from the Great Friends stamp set in Cherry Cobbler, then stamped the anchor from The Open Sea on Whisper White cardstock.  It was punched out with the 1-1/4 punch, mounted on a Basic Gray circle punched with the 1-3/8 circle punch, which was then mounted on a shape from the Matchbox Die cut from Cherry Cobbler.  We tied a piece of Baker's Twine (Cherry Cobbler) around the box.  Inside was Hershey Nuggets wrapped in different pieces of Nautical Expedition DSP.  I think this makes a great Father's Day gift!

Strength and Hope Card

This is one of the projects we made at my May Play Day.  It uses the Strength and Hope stamp set that can be found in the Summer Mini Catalog, and uses a scalloped edge medallion technique that I really love.

To make a scalloped edge medallion, cut a 3 x 3 square in the cardstock of your choice.  Using a border punch, center the square on the punch along one side and punch one time, then repeat the process for the other three sides and you are done!  Easy to do and looks very difficult!

Here is my recipe for this card:

STAMPS:  Strength and Hope

CARDSTOCK:
     Bashful Blue:  5-1/2 x 11, scored at 4-1/4
     Whisper White:  4 x 5-1/8
     Bashful Blue:  3 x 3
     Whisper White:  1-7/8 x 1-7/8

ACCESSORIES:  Dimensionals, Perfect Polka Dot Embossing Folder, Big Shot, Pearls, Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch, Paper Snips, Glue Dots

Thanks for stopping by!

     Cajun Craze: 2-7/8 x 2-7/8
     Not Quite Navy:  1-3/8 x 1-3/8 (4)
     Marina Mist:  1-1/4 x 1-1/4 (4)
     Cajun Craze:  3-3/4 x 3-3/4
     Not Quite Navy:  3-5/8 x 3-5/8

Sew Suite April Play Day Project

This is the fourth project we made at my April Play Day.  It uses the Two Tags Die, which is one of my all time favorites!

When the Sewing Kit is opened, it looks like this:

Inside the kit are buttons and thread.  It is hard to see, but the Melon Mambo cardstock has been stamped with the pin cushion stamp with Melon Mambo ink.

Here is a picture that shows the contents better:

I had seen some of these sewing kits on Stampin Connection, and patterned mine after what I had seen, but didn't write down the names of the creators like I usually do.  If you made one of these, or know who did, let me know and I will give proper credit.

My recipe:

STAMPS:  Sew Suite

CARDSTOCK:
     Tempting Turquoise:  3-3/4 x 11, scored at 5-1/2

Bold Blossom Funky Fold Birthday Card!

When I first saw a card using this fold I really wasn't sure that I liked it, but when I tried it I absolutely LOVED it!  It is so much fun to make that I honestly have trouble not using it on every card!  I keep thinking of stamp sets that would be fun to use with it.  Anyway, here is a picture of a project that we made at April Play Day:

I didn't like my first picture of this card, so took some new ones and added them!  Didn't want my lack of photography skills to detract from this card!

Directions on how to cut out this type of card can be found on Laura Lipe's blog here:  http://smileslaura.blogspot.com/2011/03/leprachaun.html.

Here is my recipe for this card:

STAMPS:  Bold Blossom, Bring on the Cake
CARDSTOCK:
Pear Pizzazz:  4-1/2 x 11 (follow directions for Funky Fold)
     Whisper White:  2 x 4-3/8

Valentine Defined Get Well Card

This was our fourth project from our March Play Day.  I fell in love with a beautiful card created by Michele Reynolds and used the same stamp sets and colors but changed the layout a good bit!  I especially liked the way this card used a Valentine stamp set for a different purpose, so we can get more from this set!  Here is a picture of my card:

STAMPS:  Valentine Defined, Sincere Salutations
CARDSTOCK:
     Old Olive:  5-1/2 x 6-1/4, scored at 2
     Cherry Cobbler:  3-1/2 x 5-1/2, scored at 2-3/4
     Daffodil Delight:  2-1/2 x 3-1/4
     Whisper White:  2-3/8 x 3-1/8
     Old Olive:  2-1/2 x 3
     Daffodil Delight:  2 x 2-7/8
     Whisper White:  1-7/8 x 2-3/4
Scraps:  Whisper White and Daffodil Delight
INK:  Cherry Cobbler
MARKERS:  Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler, Daffodil Delight
ACCESSORIES:  Dotted Ribbon Border Punch, Scallop Edge Border Punch, Perfect Polka Dots Embossing Folder, Big Shot, Sweet Buttons Embosslit, Paper Piercer, Mat Pack, Dimensionals

We made our "button" with the Sweet Buttons Embosslit by cutting out three buttons and gluing them together to give it more depth to look like a real button.  We used the paper piercer to poke two holes and threaded white thread thru it with a dental floss threader and knotted it.

Bring On The Cake Birthday Card!

This is the third card that we made at February Play Day:

This was our masculine card, and I really liked the way it turned out!  Here is the recipe for the card:

STAMPS:  Bring on the Cake
CARDSTOCK:
     Crumb Cake 5-1/2 x 8-1/2, scored at 4-1/4
     Basic Black 3-1/4 x 5-1/4
     Newsprint DSP 2-7/8 x 5-1/8
     Scraps:  Very Vanilla, Basic Black
INK:  Basic Black, Soft Suede
ACCESSORIES:  Sponge, Basic Black Brads, Paper Piercer, Mat Pack, Dimensionals, Decorative Label Punch, Scallop Trim Border Punch

When I created this card, I punched the Decorative Label Punch with Very Vanilla and sponged it with Soft Suede, but it just didn't really stand out the way it should.  I decided that it needed a backing so I created one.

First, we punched out one Very Vanilla Decorative Label Punch, and two Basic Black Decorative Label Punches.

Next, we cut one of the Basic Black Decorative Label punches in half longways and the other Basic Black Decorative Label punch in half on the short side, like you see in the picture.

Lining each black piece up so that approximately equal parts of black show on each side, we glued the Basic Black pieces to the back of the Very Vanilla Decorative Label punch.

Your finished label should look something like this from the front:

and something like this from the back:

We stamped the "Wish Big" hand stamp from the BRING ON THE CAKE stamp set on a scrap of Very Vanilla, sponged it with Soft Suede and attached it to the Decorative Label punch with dimensionals.

Linda

Got Treats? Birthday Card for February Play Day

We made this card for February Play Day, where we made four birthday cards.  I used this set to show its versatility, and considered it a card suitable for everyone, young and old!  Who wouldn't like to get a brightly colored birthday card with cupcakes on it?  I was trying to keep it simple, but would like to add some punched out flowers with a brad in the middle to the cupcake to dress it up a bit.  This card was greatly inspired by a card created by Jennie Maier on Stampin Connection, Stampin Up's demo web page.

My recipe for this card:

STAMPS:  Got Treats?
CARDSTOCK:
     So Saffron 4--1/4 x 11, scored at 5-1/2
     Old Olive 1-1/2 x 4-1/4
     Tempting Turquoise 1-5/8 x 4-1/4
     Scraps:  Whisper White, Real Red
INK:  Real Red , Tempting Turquoise and Old Olive markers
ACCESSORIES:  1-1/4 Square Punch, Square Scallop Punch, 1/2" Real Red Striped Grograin Ribbon, Word Window Punch, Real Red Brads, Mat Pack, Paper Piercer, Dimensionals

Build-a-Purse Birthday Card

Really, we did build-a-purse with the Create a Cupcake/Build a Cupcake Stamp Set and Punch at our February Play Day.  Because my birthday is in February, I decided that we would make four birthday cards.  This is the first of the birthday cards:

As I was preparing for Play Day, I sat down on Monday morning ready to create, only to have one of those days where NOTHING went together.  I finally gave up and worked on other things.  But on Tuesday morning, I found a wonderful card on Stampin Connection (the demo web page for Stampin Up), and decided that I would use it.  I changed the colors, but the layout is essentially the same as the awesome red, black and white card that I cased, created by Maria Cameron (who CASED Terri Mongeon).  Her card can be found here:  http://stampinista.blogspot.com/2011/02/build-purse.html.

I looked through all of my Stampin Up DS paper and didn't have anything polka dotted that went with my color scheme.  So, looking at my circle punches that were laying there, I decided to try making some!  I cut out 3/4" circles of Whisper White with my punch and glued them onto my Pumpkin  Pie, and cut off the circles that went past the Pumpkin Pie cardstock.  Worked great, and I hope to remember that when I need color specific polka dot paper in the future!

My Recipe:

STAMPS:  Create a Cupcake and Dot, Dot, Dot
CARDSTOCK:
     Melon Mambo 5-1/2 x 8-1/2, scored at 4-1/4
     Pumpkin Pie 2-1/2 x 3-3/4
     Whisper White 2-5/8 x 3-7/8
     Whisper White 1-1/2 x 3-7/8
     Pumpkin Pie  1-5/8 x 4
     Melon Mambo 1-3/4 x 4-1/8
     INSIDE:  Pumpkin Pie 3-3/4 x 5 and Melon Mambo 3-5/8 x 4-7/8
Scraps:  Whisper White, Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie
INK:  Melon Mambo, Basic Black
MARKERS:  Melon Mambo, Old Olive
ACCESSORIES:  Square Lattice Embossing Folder, Big Shot, 1/2" Circle Punch, 3/4 Circle Punch, Build a Cupcake Punch, Dimensionals, Basic Pearls
